A joint effort by Tricas, Tembo, Windesheim and EME-Engel has recently led to an innovation in the design of mouldings used in the production of water dissolvable detergent pouches and capsules. In mass-production the mouldings are made from aluminium , so 3D printing these mouldings from the same material ensures, for example, the thermal behavior of the prototypes is the same as real mouldings in a production environment. Additive manufacturing also allows for interesting new structures to be explored. In this example the entire cavity was perforated to realise a more evenly distributed pressure to shape the PVOH film material. This has led to new insights into the airflow behavior which will aid the design of detergent pouches in the future.
